Vincenza Sarra (nee Cocozza), a lifelong resident of Hoboken, passed away peacefully at Hoboken University Hospital, surrounded by her loving children on August 10, 2021.
Vincenza’s story began in Auletta, Salerno, Italy. Born on May 2, 1935, to Giuseppina (nee Opromolla) and Antonio Cocozza. Vincenza eventually immigrated to the United States and settled in Hoboken. She worked as a seamstress for many years in Hoboken.
Vincenza was a member of Mount Carmel Club, Jersey City and a parishioner of St. Francis Church in Hoboken. Vincenza was the loving mother of Victoria Sarra Porta, Joseph Anthony Sarra and his wife Olimpia, Antonio Sarra and his wife Silvana. She was the cherished Grandmother to Clarice, Vincenzo, Antonio, Josephine, Anthony, and Joseph.
A great joy in Vincenza’s life were her great grandchildren Matthew, Madison Rose, Nicholas, Sienna Belle and Jacob. Vincenza will be sadly missed by her step-brother Antonio Opromolla and her step-sister Rosaria Addesso. The unconditional love she gave and the values she taught will live in the hearts of all she knew and loved.
Vincenza enjoyed cooking for her family and friends throughout the years. Anyone that has met Vincenza has said that she is a beautiful, caring and giving person inside and out. One of Vincenza’s favorite things to do was visiting Atlantic City, enjoying the boardwalk, beach and playing her favorite slot machines.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 12, 2021, from 4:00 PM to 8:00PM, at Failla-McKnight Memorial Home, 533 Willow Avenue, Hoboken. Parking available in rear of memorial home off Sixth Street. A Mass will be offered Friday, 10:00 AM at St. Francis Roman and Catholic Church, in Hoboken, August 12, 2021. Entombment will follow at Flower Hill Mausoleum, in North Bergen, NJ.
