With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Tanya Rugar, a beloved mother, daughter,
sister, granddaughter, niece, and friend, who left us unexpectedly on January 4th, 2025, at the
age of 44. Tanya was a woman of quiet strength, endless love, and boundless devotion to her
family.
Born on July 15th, 1980, Tanya was a beacon of light and warmth to everyone who knew her. She
poured her heart into raising her two cherished children, Kyla (15) and James Richardson (13),
who were the absolute center of her world. Her pride in their accomplishments and her
unwavering support for their dreams were a testament to her enduring love as a mother.
Tanya was predeceased by her parents Julianne and Robert Rugar. Julianne, passed away
when Tanya was a teenager, a loss that profoundly impacted her life and shaped her strength
and resilience.
Tanya is survived by her treasured children Kyla and James Richardson, step daughter
Alexandra Richardson, her devoted sister, Justina Rugar, whose bond with her was unshakable;
her loving grandmother, Jessie Citro, who always held Tanya close to her heart; her caring
aunts and uncles Carol Folka, Cammie Citro; and Jerry Citro and his wife Cheryl, who provided
steady guidance and love throughout her life. Tanya also leaves behind her dear cousins,
Timothy Brinkerhoff Sr, Gary Brinkerhoff, Julianne and Kristiana Citro-Rodriguez, Vincent and
his wife Katherine, and Fabiana and her fiancé Peter Messler, who will forever remember her for
her wicked sense of humor, gentle spirit and kind soul.
To those who knew her, Tanya was a source of quiet inspiration, known for her selflessness,
compassion, and the ability to make everyone feel seen and valued. Her laugh could brighten
even the darkest days, and her strength carried those she loved through life’s most challenging
moments. She was a steadfast presence, a confidante, and a nurturer whose absence leaves a
void that words cannot fill.
Though her time with us was far too short, Tanya’s love, kindness, and resilience will live on in
the hearts of those she touched. Her memory will be a guiding light for her children, Kyla and
James, as they navigate the world with the legacy of her love.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 10th, 2025, at Failla-McKnight Memorial Home in Hoboken, NJ, from 3-8 PM followed by a funeral mass on Saturday, January 11th, 2025, at St. Francis Church in Hoboken beginning at 9:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Go Fund Me dedicated
to the needs and education of her children, Kyla and James.
She will be missed more than words can express and forever remembered with love. Rest
peacefully, Tanya, in the embrace of eternal light.
