Obituary

Salvatore Maione, 68, of Weehawken, NJ passed away on Thursday morning, April 13th, 2023.

Sal fought a long battle. He was a lifelong resident of Weehawken. He played basketball which was his passion for Weehawken High School and continued his career at Rhode Island College breaking many records along the way.

He was also a basketball coach for the Weehawken Recreation department for many years and had a huge impact on his players instilling hard work and dedication in each and every one of them.

Sals love for the game continued by becoming a referee for both basketball and volleyball. Sal was also a die hard Dallas Cowboys fan which will live on in his family.

Predeceased by his parents, Anibelo and Lauretta Maione (née Impreveduto) and sister Catherine Miller (née Maione).

Sal is survived by his loving wife, Lori Maione (née Shababb), his son Michael, his daughter Melissa and her wife Pia (née Spina), his grandchildren David and Mikayla Valentin and “his baby” Abryana Maione. His two grand dogs, Ziggy and Mello.  His sister Julia and husband Victor Barone.

Sal is going to be deeply missed by his mother in law, Mary Shababb and late husband Henry Shababb.  His in laws, Michael and wife Michele Shababb, his late sister in law Susan Pirro, Karen and her husband Robert Wilson, Richard and his wife Linda Shababb, late Steven Shababb, and Robert Shababb. Sal will be deeply missed by all his nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews who will cherish all memories made.

A funeral mass will be offered at St. Lawrence RC Church in Weehawken, NJ on Monday, April 17th, 2023, beginning at 10:30am.

Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ.

A visitation will be held at the Failla-McKnight Memorial Home; 533 Willow Avenue, Hoboken, NJ on Sunday, April 16th, 2023, beginning at 2pm and concluding at 8pm.
