A beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, friend, public servant, coach, and faithful member of the Hoboken community

Oseas “Joe” Ocasio passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, devotion, and community that will continue to live on in the many lives he touched.

Joe will be remembered as a constant and familiar face in Hoboken. From the friends who knew him since childhood, to the members of his place of worship, to the community youth he coached in basketball. Joe gave generously of his time, heart, and presence. Whether serving the public for many years, spending time with loved ones, or simply being out and walking his beloved dog, Apollo, Joe was part of the fabric of Hoboken.

As the youngest of nine children, Joe carried with him the strength, humor, and love of a large family. He had a way of making people feel seen and welcomed, and his warmth will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Joe is survived by his sisters, Nora Uresche, Orida Ocasio, and Oria Viruet; his brother-in-law, Frank Viruet, his children, Jennifer Ocasio, Deanna Calvacca, and Daniel Calvacca; his grandson, Dallas Rodriguez; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. He is also survived by hundreds of friends who loved him dearly, including his church community, as well as his beloved companion and very best friend Annie Wallington, who never left his side, showered him with love and kept him smiling until the very end.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026 between 3 pm and 7 pm at the Failla-McKnight Memorial Home, 533 Willow Avenue, Hoboken.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Joe’s name to any charity that supports youth sports.
