Karuna Mandal, 80, of Hoboken, passed away leaving behind a family and a close circle of friends who loved her dearly.

Karuna was fiercely independent, curious, and always eager to learn. Her quest for knowledge was a lifelong pursuit, and she took a keen interest in the world and the people around her. She welcomed people from all walks of life with an open mind and an accepting heart. She valued people for who they were, and her generosity showed in her willingness to help others, often quietly and without expecting anything in return.

She loved to travel and especially treasured spending her winters in India by the beaches of Goa, enjoying the people and the food. These visits gave her the opportunity to enjoy time with family while returning to a place that held a special place in her heart.

Karuna cherished her friendships just as deeply. Her friends were family to her. She loved spending time with them, sharing meals, conversations, laughter, and the everyday moments that become some of life’s most treasured memories. Her curiosity and interest in others brought warmth to those conversations, and the friendships she nurtured throughout her life brought her tremendous joy and companionship.

Karuna is survived by her beloved sister, Trishula Dagli; her nephew, Suhrud, and his wife, Chhaya; her niece, Aditi, and her husband, Kshitij; her grandnieces, Kavya, Esha, and Maitri; her grandnephew, Amitav; and the many cherished friends who became her extended family and held a very special place in her life and heart. She is also survived by her daughter, Monisha.

Karuna lived life on her own terms, with an enduring desire to learn, explore, and connect with others. She will be remembered for her independence, her generous heart, her love of travel, and her acceptance of people of different backgrounds and experiences.

Her presence will be deeply missed. Those who loved Karuna will carry with them her stories, her laughter, her kindness, and the memory of a woman whose mind remained curious and whose heart remained open.

Memorial visitation Thursday, October 1, 2026, 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM at the Failla-McKnight Memorial Home, 533 Willow Avenue, Hoboken. There is no religious service.
