Obituary

Josephine “Josie” Riccio, 87, was called home into eternal life with the Lord on Sunday, November 17th, 2024. Josephine was born to Francesco and Antonia Riccio on December 29th, 1936.

Josephine was a devout Catholic who dedicated her life to her faith and family. She was an active parishioner of various parishes, most recently St. John’s the Baptist, in Jersey City. Her hunger and thirst for the word of the Lord never ceased. Over the years, she attended Bible study, prayer group, cursillos, and life in the spirit seminars. She spread the love of God to everyone she met, often teaching others about the Divine Mercy Chaplet. Josephine adored her extended church family and affectionately called them her “angels”.

Although a lifelong resident of Jersey City, Josephine was a New Yorker at heart. She loved the hustle and bustle of the city, Broadway plays, the cultural connections and her beloved New York Yankees! She had many passions, like traveling, making new friends, learning new things, but most importantly, she treasured being with her family.

Jospehine was the third child of seven. She was a proud Italian-American who loved teaching her siblings and each generation of nieces and nephews about their Italian heritage, roots, traditions and language. Making new memories with family and sharing old cherished memories brought her great joy. Josephine is survived by her sisters, Frances Daletto and Anna DePremio, and her husband Bill, as well as many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and their children. She is predeceased by her parents: Francesco and Antonia Riccio, and her siblings: Pasquale “Patsy” Riccio, Frank Riccio Jr., Dominick Riccio, and Clare Maglori.

Josephine was a thoughtful and compassionate person who had a heart of gold, purified with the love of God. She touched so many lives with her faithfulness. Her life and memory will live on in the hearts of many.

Visitation will be held at Failla Memorial Home, 533 Willow Avenue, on Friday, November 22nd, 2024 from 9:00 to 11:00 am.

The Funeral mass will follow at 11:00 am at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, 704 Jefferson Street, Hoboken, NJ.

A private cremation will follow.
