Obituary

John R. Spano, 71, of Toms River, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 28, 2020 at Toms River Community Hospital. Born in Hoboken, John resided in Toms River for two years. He was employed at The Village of Ridgewood as their Village Superintendent. John is survived by his loving wife Joan (nee Rizzo), a loving son, John (Nicole), and a cherished daughter, Stacy (Dwayne Cruz).  He was predeceased by his brothers, Nunzio and Frank and a sister, Paulette.  A great joy in John’s life were his cherished grandchildren, Hoboken Police Officer Joseph Spano, Amanda Spano, Jonathan Cruz and a great-grandchild, Joseph Spano and a host of nieces and nephews.

The Celebration of the Eucharist will be offered on Saturday, October 3, 2020, 10AM at St. Francis Church, 308 Jefferson Street, Hoboken. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 2, 2020, beginning at 4pm and concluding at 9pm at Failla-McKnight Memorial Home, 533 Willow Avenue, Hoboken.  There will be no visitation prior to the funeral mass on Saturday. Friends and Relatives are respectfully asked to gather directly at church no later than 9:45am.

For the safety of in-person attendees and our staff, gatherings at Failla-McKnight Memorial Home will currently follow the latest guidelines as described here: 

  • All people attending must wear a mask while inside and around the outside of the funeral home. 
  • For safety, the number of attendees indoors will be limited to 50 attendees at a time at the discretion of the management.
  • All attendees must practice social distancing while paying their respects.
