Obituary

John R Howe, 78, of Hoboken, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 15, 2025 surrounded by his family. John, better known as Jackie or Pop Pop, was born on October 12, 1946 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Joseph Howe and Rosanna (Heinsohn) Howe.  

Jackie was a dedicated public servant, and proudly served the Hoboken Police Department for 26 years, retiring as a Captain.

Jackie was known for his quick sense of humor, his delicious cooking skills and his proud Irish heritage as a former Grand Marshall of the Hoboken St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  He was also known for his strength and deep love for family and friends, especially his unwavering commitment to his wife, children and grandchildren.  He was the chef every holiday meal, the biggest cheerleader on the sidelines at every game and full of endless fun on the Boardwalk every summer.

Jackie is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Rosemarie, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and memories.  

He will be deeply missed by his cherished children, Sean Howe and his wife Kerry; his daughter Kelly Martin and her husband David; and his adored grandchildren, Sean Patrick and Emma Grace, who brought the greatest joy to his life.

Jackie is also survived by his loving sisters, Veronica Howe and Carol Cecere. In addition to his parents, Jackie was predeceased by his brothers, James and Robert Howe and his sister, Janet Halloway.

The Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 19th from 9AM to 10:45AM at the Failla-McKnight Memorial Home, 533 Willow Ave, Hoboken, NJ 07030.

The Funeral Mass will be offered at 11 AM at Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 400 Willow Ave, Hoboken, NJ 07030.

In lieu, of flowers donations can be made to the COPD foundation.
