Born and raised in Hoboken, NJ, to the late Mary (née Davenport) and Pasquale DeStefano, George was a man of deep faith, boundless kindness, and unwavering dedication to his community and loved ones.

Affectionately known to all as “Uncle Georgie,” he was a beacon of love, strength, and generosity. A devoted friend to Steve Johns, a beloved brother to Anthony DeStefano and the late Michele Russo, and her late husband, Mayor Anthony Russo, and a treasured uncle and cousin.
He played an irreplaceable role in the lives of his nieces and nephews:
        •       Nephew Nicholas (Nick) S. Russo, his wife Olivia, and their children Jenna Rae, Anthony Evan, Lucien Thomas, and Nicolo James
        •       Nephew Dr. Michael S. Russo, Hoboken Third Ward Councilman, his wife Lisa, and their children Lia Grace, Jack Anthony, Michele Stella, and Michael Dean
        •       Nephew Anthony P. Russo, Hoboken Police Sergeant, his wife Aliesette, and their daughters Ava Liana and Aliana Micaela
        •       Late niece Christina DeStefano, and her children, daughter Clara DeStefano and son Zachary Taylor

Uncle Georgie was more than family—he was a guiding light, a steady presence in times of hardship, and a source of endless love and wisdom. He embraced not only his own kin but an entire city of adoptive nieces and nephews, earning the admiration and gratitude of all who knew him.

A man of profound faith, George was deeply devoted to St. Francis Church, where he was an active supporter and a cherished member of the choir. His love for music and his commitment to his parish brought joy to so many, and his voice will forever echo in the hearts of those who worshipped alongside him.

A dedicated professional, George served as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the City of Hoboken for over three decades, bringing integrity and excellence to his work. He also spent over two decades with H&R Block, where his expertise and leadership touched the lives of countless clients and colleagues.

A tireless civic volunteer and community leader, George’s impact on Hoboken was immeasurable. His generosity and dedication to his beloved hometown enriched countless lives, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and service that will live on in the hearts of those he touched. His laughter, his kindness, and his unwavering support will never be forgotten.
