Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Donald G. Girovasi, who died peacefully on July 16, 2025.

Born in Hoboken, NJ, Donald lived a life defined by love—for his family, his community, and all living creatures. A devoted husband, he was married to his beloved wife, Eileen, for 54 wonderful years until her passing. He is survived by his children: Donald, Peggy, and Mary, along with her husband, Scott McClary. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews.

A proud Korean War veteran, Donald served his country with honor before beginning a long and dedicated career as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. His unwavering loyalty to the New York Giants was well known; he was a passionate fan who loved sharing his enthusiasm for the game with family and friends.

Donald’s compassion extended beyond people. He had an extraordinary love for animals—especially his dogs, who were his constant companions. Neighbors often saw him walking them multiple times a day, trailed by birds hoping for the peanuts he always carried and squirrels that knew him as a generous friend. True to his gentle spirit, his dogs were never denied “just a taste” of whatever he was eating.

Generosity and kindness defined Donald’s life. He had a deep concern for the homeless and quietly supported those in need whenever he could. In honor of his legacy, the family kindly asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to his favorite charity, injesusnamecharities.org, a cause that meant a great deal to him.  Donald will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His legacy of kindness, generosity, and love lives on in the hearts of those he touched.

Funeral arrangements will be private. Arrangements under the care of the Failla-McKnight Memorial Home, 533 Willow Avenue, Hoboken, NJ.
