Cristina Bonet, 90, who loved to be called grandma by her grandchildren, departed her loving family on November 7, 2023. She was born in Naguabo, Puerto Rico on March 5, 1933, to Camila Viera and Marcelo Rodriguez.
Cristina was a dedicated mother to Felix Bonet, Jr., Maria Bonet Martinez, and Adelita Bonet. She raised her children with love and devotion in Hoboken, NJ with her husband Felix Bonet.
Cristina moved to the New York/New Jersey area from Puerto Rico as a young woman seeking to build a better life and to raise her own family. Cristina was an industrious worker and talented businesswoman. She worked at the Tootsie Roll factory in Hoboken for over 20 years where she met her husband Felix. She owned a brownstone and candy store in Hoboken, and sold Avon and Stanley products, and clothing. She approached each endeavor with an ambitious spirit so that her family could have a great life.
Cristina was funny and she loved music, dancing and singing. She was described as “always incredibly happy” and as “an optimistic person.” Her happiest times were when she was cooking for her family and celebrating birthdays and holidays at home.
Cristina was preceded in death by her husband, Felix Bonet, and her son, Felix Bonet, Jr. She is survived by her children Maria Bonet Martinez and Adelita Bonet. Aside from the children she doted on, Cristina adored her son-in-law Willy Martinez and daughter-in-law Melanie Adair. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jason, Keith, and Mia Martinez, Jennifer and Nicole Bonet, and her great-grandchildren Jazleen and MacKenzie Bonet, Gianna Martinez, and Anthony Iorio.
Please join us in celebrating her life on Friday, November 10, 2023, beginning at 2:00 p.m. –and concluding at 8:00 p.m. at Failla-McKnight Memorial Home, 533 Willow Ave., Hoboken.
The funeral mass will be offered on Saturday November 11th, 2023 at 10:00am at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 61 Monroe St., Hoboken, NJ.
Entombment will follow at Garden of Memories located at 300 Soldier Hill Rd, Township of Washington, NJ 07676.
