Carmela Sasso “Lena” nee Altomare, 89, of Hoboken passed away peacefully at the Alaris Health center in Kearney on Sunday November 12th, 2023. “Lena” was a retired seamstress with various clothing manufacturers in Hudson County for some 50 years. Lena was born in Molfetta, Italy, she was a member of the international ladies garments workers union. Lena immigrated to the United States in 1949 settling in Hoboken, NJ. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Pantaleo Sasso.
She was the proud mother of Cosmo and his wife Eliana, Anthony and his wife Amanda, Martin Sasso, Enza Casalino and her husband Peter, Esther and her late husband Luis Rentas.
Also surviving is a sister Gina Benetti of Italy. A great joy in her life were her five grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her siblings Antino, Vincent, Pasquale Altomare and a sister Mary Minnivini.
The funeral mass will be offered on Friday November 17th, 2023 at St. Franics RC Church Hoboken, NJ beginning at 10:00am.
Interment will follow will her late husband Pantaleo Sasso in Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ.
Visitation will be held on Thursday November 16th, 2023 beginning at 4:00pm and concluding at 8:00pm.
