Carmela (Sugar) Frawley, 94, passed away peacefully at home on July 20, 2026 with her family by her side. Carmela held many titles in her life, but Mom and Nana were her favorites.
Carmela was born and raised in Hoboken, the youngest of 10 children and it is there she met the love of her life, James P. Frawley. There they built a loving home, including their 3 children, Deborah Andreano (Anthony), Thomas J.
Frawley (Mary), and Carmela Coppola (Theodore, deceased). As a family, they spent many summers at Greenwood Lake, creating memories that the family still laughs about today before finally settling in Toms River in 1984.
Carmela is predeceased by her husband, James P., her son-in-law, Theodore Coppola and granddaughter Dana Frawley.
She is survived by her 3 children, 9 grandchildren, Theodore J. Coppola (Evelyn), Keri A.Dittmar (Trevor), Toni Olson (Edwin), Joseph M. Coppola (Holly), Kristin Frawley, Nicole lanco (Nicholas), Thomas J. Frawley (Bonnie), Deidre V. Quinones (David) and Brandon R. Frawley. She is also survived by her 15 great-grandchildren, Dr. Katelin Dittmar, Sabryna Nosher, Alexander Coppola, Ty Michael Dittmar, Nicholas Fillingim, Anthony Coppola, Adam Coppola, Joseph Coppola, Autumn Brennan, Aaron Quinones, Gemma lanco, Jase Coppola, Jordan Olson, Jameson Frawley and Vincenzo Quinones, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Friends and family can gather on Thursday, July 23, 2026 from 3 pm to 7 pm at Carmona-Bolen Funeral Home on Main St. in Toms River. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in her honor.
