Carl Schaefer, age 80 died January 7, 2021 in Hudson Hills Senior
Independent Living in North Bergen. Before entering Hudson Hills, he
was a life- long resident of Hoboken. He graduated from Notre Dame
University and Rutgers Law School. Following law school he served in
the United States earning the rank of captain and awarded the Bronze
Star for his service in Viet Nam. He worked for the city of Hoboken in
the law department as a prosecutor and was an attorney for the Zoning
Board. For many years he maintained a private law practice in Hoboken
and was an attorney for the Fritz Reuter Altenheim now known as
Hudson Hills. He was an avid golfer and long time member of the
Hackensack Golf Club. He hosted many parties and holiday dinners for
family and friends. He loved dining out at gourmet restaurants and was
known for his generosity to family and friends. He had many and
colorful longtime friends with whom he remained close, getting
together on a regular basis until Covid.
Son of German and Austrian immigrants, Rudolf and Maria Rosa (Rose)
Schaefer, and stepson of Lydia Schaefer, he is survived by his sister,
Loretta and brother-in-law, Robert Zucconi who are now residing in
Florida and brother, Ronald Schaefer of North Bergen. He was proud of
his four nieces, Carmenn Woolley, Gabriella Schaefer, Laura and Erika
Zucconi. His cousin, Walter Siegordner and his daughter, Karen Fitzman
reside in Bergenfield. There are many extended family relatives
including Walter Siegordner Jr., Emily and Erik Fitzman, Richard
Samueleski, Tania McVeety, Lydia, John, and Jennifer Coleman, Steven
and Kenneth Feigles.
Because of the Covid situation, there will be a memorial and repast
service to celebrate Carl’s life at a later date.
