Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Arsenio Vincent Silvestri, a lifelong Jersey City resident and beloved family man, who passed away on September 25th, at the age of 87.  Born on March 10, 1937, at Margaret Hague Hospital in Jersey City, Arsenio lived a rich and fulfilling life, touching the hearts of all who knew him. As a dedicated brother, uncle, friend, and life partner, he embodied kindness and compassion in everything he did.

Arsenio’s educational career began as a History Teacher, later becoming Secretary to the Jersey City Board of Education. His financial expertise led him to a position as a loan officer at NJ First National Bank, where he showcased his professional versatility. Never one to shy away from pursuing his dreams, Arsenio earned a degree from the Connecticut School of Broadcasting, in pursuit of his dream, aspiring to become a voiceover artist. 

Arsenio was a cherished member of his community, known for his kindness, generosity, and captivating storytelling abilities. Arsenio’s soft-spoken and melodic voice made him a natural storyteller, and his poetic tone and conversational brilliance charmed all who knew him, his captivating storytelling and melodic voice, which drew people in and made them feel at home. Never one to shy away from pursuing his dreams. Arsenio also earned a degree from the Connecticut School of Broadcasting, aspiring to become a voiceover artist. His kindness and sense of humor and his love of Baseball were cherished by all, including the Connell Foley Law Firm Partners, Lawyers and office staff, where he worked as a law office clerk, until his retirement in 2022.

A devoted Yankee fan, Arsenio’s passion for baseball was a defining part of his life. He tried out as a pitcher for a Major League the Brooklyn Dodgers. His love for the sport was infectious, and he enjoyed reporting on local and international news, as well as baseball updates, his enthusiasm for the game radiated in every conversation with the flair like a seasoned radio sports announcer!

Family was always at the heart of Arsenio’s life, especially the loving memory of his mother Mary Coscia and Father Vincent Silvestri. He treasured spending time with his loved ones, and family sharing Sunday pasta and wine with childhood friends, brothers, nieces, and nephews.

Arsenio is survived by his beloved domestic partner, Janice Orlandi, his brothers: Giacomo & (Joan) Silvestri, Michael & (Marie) Silvestri, niece Mary Silvestri, nephews Michael, Silvestri, Vincent & (Lorna) Silvestri, grand-nephew Giacomo, grand-nieces Victoria, Talia, Ava, Silvestri and Isabela Crosby. 

His domestic partner’s family: brothers; John & (Anna) and Peter & (Mary-Sue) Ievolo, sister; Victoria Wallace and niece & nephews; Jennifer, Johnny, Michael and Andrew. 

Close childhood friends, professional colleagues and clergy who loved him: Fathers Francis Schiller, and Eugene Squeo; Anthony Bardino, Donny Santee, Joe Rakowski, Dr Frio, Dennis Munn and Richard Reevesas well as Connell Foley Law Firm, partners, lawyers and office staff. His warmth, humor, and ability to captivate listeners will be sorely missed.                                      

A visitation for family, friends, and colleagues will be held at: St. Patrick’s Cathedral 492 Bramhall Ave in Jersey City, NJ, 07304 on Saturday November 2nd. The Funeral Mass will be offered beginning at 10:00 AM. All flowers are to be delivered directly to the church.

In loving memory of Arsenio Vincent Silvestri All are welcome to gather to share in remembrance and fellowship. Arsenio’s remarkable life, defined by the love, kindness, and laughter, he generously shared with so many. He will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Parish of Saint Patrick & Assumption/All Saints, 492 Bramhall Avenue, Jersey City, NJ 07304. Donations will be used towards the restoration of Saint Patrick’s Parish Hall.
