Alphonsine “Honey” Rubin (nee Petrillo), 87, who was born and raised in Hoboken, NJ, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2026 peacefully at her home in Hoboken surrounded by loved ones. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Fred Rubin (2022). Loving mother of Marc Rubin and his wife Tracy Rubin (nee Syracuse). Cherished grandmother of Addison and Leah Rubin. Dear sister of Joseph Petrillo. Predeceased by her brother, John Petrillo (1996). Honey is also survived by her nieces Andrea Cassidy Shaw, Donna Famelio (nee Rubin) and Sarina Farji (nee Rubin) and nephews Joseph Petrillo and Michael Cabarle. Loving daughter of the late John Petrillo and Rose Petrillo (nee Lisa).
Honey was born at St. Mary’s Hospital in Hoboken, NJ on August 11, 1938. She spent her entire childhood in Hoboken, where her father owned and operated The Adams Tavern for 25 years after working as a longshoreman, while her mother worked as a seamstress for various clothing manufacturers in Hudson County. After graduating from A.J. Demarest High School in Hoboken in 1956, Honey began her career as a telephone operator for AT&T, eventually working her way through the ranks to becoming a public relations executive during her 30+ years with the company. Following a brief retirement, she began a second career with the Parking Violations Bureau in the City of Hoboken for over 20 years, retiring as manager.
She married her husband Fred on May 7, 1977. After spending some time in Union City, NJ and North Bergen, NJ, Honey and Fred moved to Hoboken in 1987, where she would spend her remaining years. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, and socializing with her friends, both at home and on trips to Atlantic City.
Honey was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, aunt, and a dear friend to many. She will be greatly missed by all.
