Obituary

Vincent Amato, 78, of Secaucus, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 25, 2020.

Vinny was born in Hoboken to Vincenzo and Felicia Amato and Hoboken truly was his home. He grew up on Adams Street, a block away from his beloved Fiore’s, where he started working as a stock boy at 15 years old, and around the corner from St. Francis Church, where he went to grammar school and was an altar boy. Vinny graduated from A.J. Demarest High School, worked as a checker on the Hoboken Docks and served in the Army National Guard.

He opened his own business in Cliffside Park before joining his brother, John, at Fiore’s. He loved what he did and through it, he served generations of Hobokenites – old and new. He was so proud to be a part of this family-owned business and how it has made so many people so happy. Food was his passion and he always wanted to make sure you were eating enough. It was his standard practice to plan dinner while eating lunch.

Vinny was blessed to have a career that he loved and to work with the people he loved but his greatest blessing was sharing his life with his wife, Marietta. She loved him, she cared for him, she was literally his lifesaver. Vinny had many health challenges over the years and he was fortunate to have had a devoted family to care for him, including their children Vincent, Jr., Joseph, Maria, Nicole and her husband, Thomas Brennan. It was Roscoe, the family dog, who gave him so much joy and happiness, especially when he could feed him scraps from the table.

It must be mentioned that his angels extended beyond his immediate family. Marietta’s family, the Giancaspros, were always there in his hour of need. In addition, Vinny had a knack for attracting wonderful, lifelong friends who were loyal, steadfast and always went out of their way for him. Vinny was predeceased by his loving parents, Vincenzo and Felicia and his father-in-law, Joseph Giancaspro, Sr. Vinny is survived by his extraordinary wife, Marietta and their family; his beloved siblings John and his wife Josephine and their family and Maryann Vitolo and her husband, Dominick and their family; His mother-in-law, Rina Giancaspro; In-laws Victoria Giancaspro and her family, Rina Giancaspro, Josephine DeGennaro and her husband Mauro and their family, Joseph Giancaspro, Jr. and his wife Valerie and their family, Dominick Giancaspro and Annette Aligo and her husband Angelo and their family.

Due to the present health crisis, a Funeral Memorial Mass will be offered at St. Francis RC Church in Hoboken at a time to be announced. Vincent will be interred privately at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital will be greatly appreciated by the family.
