Obituary

Theresa “Terry” A. LaBruno (Cappiello), 63, passed away peacefully in the presence of her devoted family. Born and raised in Hoboken, Terry attended Saint Ann’s School, The Academy of Sacred Heart, and Saint Peter’s College. For forty years, Terry was a passionate algebra and geometry teacher for The Academy of Sacred Heart, Saint Mary’s High School, and Saint Peter’s Preparatory School. Upon her retirement, Terry helped Prep students at the Browning Center. Terry was also a former Councilwoman for her beloved City of Hoboken.

Predeceased by her loving parents Lena and Donato Cappiello, and brother Patsy “Cappy” Cappiello and sister-in-law Theresa Cappiello. Survived by her adoring husband Joseph LaBruno, retired Battalion Chief of the Hoboken Fire Department, her loving children Danielle, Tia, and Christina, her precious granddaughter Lena, the light of her life, her sons-in-law Nicholas and Tim, her sister Rose Cappiello and brothers Anthony, Joseph, and Daniel Cappiello and sisters-in-law, Anna Cappiello and Maureen Cappiello. Terry is also survived by many devoted nieces and nephews. 

Terry will be remembered for her lifelong service to others, her unyielding kindness and generosity, her infectious laugh, and her unbounded love of life. Terry was a friend to all and loved by so many. 

The Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, September 26th, 11:00 am at Saint Ann’s Church in Hoboken. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited for continuous visitation on Friday, September 25th, commencing at 2:00 pm and concluding at 8:00 pm at Failla Memorial Home, 533 Willow Avenue in Hoboken. Parking available in rear of memorial home off Sixth Street. There will be no visitation prior to the Funeral Mass. Relatives and friends are asked to gather directly at St. Ann Church no later than 10:45 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to “St. Peter’s Prep/Terry’s Mission Fund,” 144 Grand St. Jersey City, New Jersey 07302.

For the safety of in-person attendees and our staff, gatherings at Failla-McKnight Memorial Home will currently follow the latest guidelines as described here: 

  • All people attending must wear a mask while inside and around the outside of the funeral home. 
  • For safety, the number of attendees indoors will be limited to 50 attendees at a time at the discretion of the management.
  • All attendees must practice social distancing while paying their respects.
