Obituary

Phyllis DeMassi nee Altomare 65, born in Jersey City, a lifelong Hoboken resident, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 23rd, 2023.

Phyllis was a fire-cracker known for her vibrant personality and fierce protectiveness of those she loved. She was generous to so many often offering a place to stay, a delicious meal, and some good advice. Phyllis was also an incredible cook delighting her loved ones with her culinary creations.

A great joy in her life was her loving son Derek DeMassi and his wife Kora Maczkowska. The beloved daughter of previously deceased parents, Salvatore Altomare and Emily (Labruno) Altomare. Phyllis leaves to mourn her passing her dear Aunt Marietta Chaneski and Uncle Bob Chaneski.

She will be missed by her Altomare and Chaneski cousins. She is survived by her brother-in-law Robert A. DeMassi. She also leaves behind her cherished best friend Grace Pignotti.

Phyllis had a career in property management working for Marineview Management. She later worked for the Hoboken Public Library. She was dedicated and left a lasting impression on her coworkers. Phyllis had a variety of interests including music, movies, and interior decorating finding joy and solace in these activities.

She had a deep affection for her many dogs including Tara, Jada, Ava, Tyson, and her beloved Pitbull Vegas.

A memorial mass will be offered in honor of Phyllis on Monday, November 27th at 10:00 am at St. Ann’s RC Church. Arrangements being made by Failla-McKnight Memorial Home.

Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ
