Maria Acerra (nee Bonavita), 89, of Hoboken passed away on August 21, 2020 at Hackensack University Medical Center.  Born in Quindici, Italy. Maria came to the United States and Hoboken in 1954.  Maria was a retired Seamstress for many years with various clothing companies and a member of the International Ladies Garment workers Union at the time of her death.  Maria was predeceased by her husband Emilio in 2002, and a cherished son John in 1989, and a second son Robert in 2019.  Also predeceasing her were two brothers, Luigi, Guillermo, and two sisters, Carmela Santaniello and Ameilia Vivenzio .  She leaves to mourn her passing a loving son Tony and his devoted wife Eleonora. A caring daughter in law Betty Acerra and, an endeared sister in law Rose Scalzo.  A great joy in her life were her grandsons Jason and Robert, and her great grandchildren Jason, Madison, and Tyler.  Also surviving is a host of nieces and nephews. 

A private family viewing will be held at the funeral home prior to the Funeral Mass.  Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to share in the celebration of the Eucharist at the Funeral Mass on Tuesday, August 25 at St. Francis R.C. Church, Hoboken at 11:15 AM.  Interment will follow at Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City.  In adherence to the COVID-19 regulations masks and social distancing are required.
