Juan Pablo Nuñez, a dedicated father, husband, and man of deep faith, passed away peacefully
at the age of 76, surrounded by his family. A lover of classic salsa music and a cultivator of calm,
Juan was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, to María Mercedes and Ramón Antonio.
Cherished by his eleven siblings, Juan grew up surrounded by love and a passion for both music
and sports, particularly baseball. His early years in the Dominican Republic laid the foundation
for the generous spirit and vibrant personality that would later define his life.
After spending time studying in Puerto Rico, Juan made his way to Hudson County, New Jersey,
where he built a life centered around his family. For over 15 years, he worked at Universal
Folding Box Company, supporting his growing family with unwavering commitment. It was in
Hoboken that Juan met the love of his life, Nelly Torres. The couple resided in Hoboken for over
twenty-five years where he was often spotted playing basketball in Fourth Street Park with his
memorable afro and aviator sunglasses.
In 2005, Juan and Nelly fulfilled a lifelong dream when they purchased their first home in Jersey
City. Over the years, they shared a rich and loving family life with their seven children— Nelly,
Juan, Carlos, Edgar, Johnny, Joann, and Ilyan—along with fifteen grandchildren and nine great-
grandchildren. The couple recently celebrated their 50th anniversary.
Juan was known for his witty sense of humor, warmth, and kindness, frequently hosting vibrant
gatherings at his home alongside Nelly. From birthdays and New Year’s Eve parties to casual
get-togethers centered around his beloved New York Mets and New York Giants, Juan’s home
was always a welcoming haven for friends and family. These events, often brimming with
dancing and laughter, highlighted his gentle and joyful spirit, endearing him to everyone around
him.
As he grew older, Juan’s wisdom and spirituality deepened. His family lovingly referred to him
as a sage, a trusted advisor whose guidance was invaluable, especially during challenging times.
Juan combined logic and spirituality in a way that imparted tolerance, patience, and faith to his
children. He was flexible yet disciplined, always finding a balance between structure and
intuition. His mornings were marked by quiet rituals— early morning tea and walks on the
treadmill —that reflected his serene disposition. Known for his delicious café con leche and
tostones, he took pleasure in cooking in his signature apron and sharing meals with his family.
A man of deep spirituality and boundless curiosity, Juan embraced faith in an open and
inclusive way that anchored his calm and steady presence. His life was a testament to the
strength of faith, love, and kindness. He leaves behind treasured memories and will be
profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
