Obituary

Joan Cahill, 92, of Hoboken passed away peacefully on September 10th, 2023. A lifelong resident of Hoboken, Joan is predeceased by her beloved father Joseph Cahill, mother Bridget O’Gara, aunt Nora O’Gara, her brothers Thomas and John Cahill, her sisters Mary Florio and Anne McDonough, and her nieces Maureen Chiriac and Bernice McDonough.

She worked for many years as a customer service banker in New York City, ending her career with European American Bank. Joan was a devout Catholic, a parishioner of Saint Peter and Paul RC Church where she was very active in the Rosary Society and attended Mass every day.

A great joy in Joan’s life was her cherished family, especially her Nieces and Nephews. She was everyone’s favorite- the Consummate Aunt, who made everything fun. Her baking and annual dessert parties were legendary, and we will all miss them. She was a hobbyist photographer, chronicling every family event for decades. She took many photos, and gave many chuckles. Joan was cheerful, funny and brightened the day for all she met.

She is survived by Patricia, Edward (Nancy), Lorraine Florio, Thomas (Halima) and Jimmy (Kim) McDonough, Joseph (Joanne), Michael (Lea) Thomas (Barbara), Richard (Beth) Cahill and Mary (Joe) Rotundi and many Grand Nieces and Nephews.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday September 13th 2023 beginning at 3pm and concluding at 7pm at Failla-McKnight Memorial Home.

The funeral mass will be offered at ST. Peter & Paul RC Church in Hoboken on Thursday 14th 2023 at 9:30am.

Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ.
