Obituary

Giuseppe “Nonno” Cardillo was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather,
and friend. He entered his eternal life on February 25, 2021 at the age of 93, surrounded by his loved
ones who will continue to honor and cherish his legacy.
Giuseppe was born in San Giacomo, Italy to parents Francesco and Marie Antoinette Cardillo on
November 28, 1927. Giuseppe served in the Italian army and later migrated to the United States in the
year 1960 with his beloved wife Rosina and children, Frank and Antoinette. The Cardillo family began
their lives in the “Mile Square” City of Hoboken, NJ.
Giuseppe was known for being such a hard worker no matter what the job entailed. He began working
at the Tootsie Roll Factory in Hoboken and soon after dedicated 23 years of service to the City of
Hoboken. Giuseppe was notorious for his smooth, great tasting, homemade red wine that was created
in the basement of 831 Willow Avenue. Giuseppe loved Sunday dinners alongside family with a glass of
his homemade red wine in hand.
The residents of Hoboken knew Giuseppe as the Italian Nonno with the cutest smile who walked miles
around Hoboken with his best puppy pal, “Dolce”. Giuseppe was a proud member of the Monte San
Giacomo Club where he would spend hours chatting with local paisanos, playing card games, drinking
wine and bartending.
The simplest pleasures in life brought such joy to Giuseppe. Giuseppe is survived by his wife, Rosina;
son, Frank; Daughter-in law, Rosemarie; Son-in Law Pietro; Grandchildren, Frankie, Jen, Joey, Anthony;
Great Grandchildren, Peter and Anthony. Visitation will be held on Sunday , February 28, 2021 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Failla Memorial Home, 533 Willow Avenue, Hoboken.
