Obituary

Dorothy Nisler, 93, of Toms River, formerly of Union City, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2024.

Dorothy was born on May 24, 1931 in Jersey City, NJ to Winifred (née Atkinson). Her early years were spent in Union City with her loving siblings, Victoria, Winifred, and Edward. After years of schooling, she began her career as a Telephone Operator at Bell Telephone.

She later went on to be the Supervisor of Telephone Communications at Palisades General Hospital in North Bergen. Dorothy met her husband Peter at a local dance and wed at the age of 18. Dorothy and Peter had 3 children, Peter John, Mark, and Craig.

Dorothy’s life can best be encapsulated by 5 words: Family, Friends, Flowers, Food, & Fun. In her 93 years she experienced an abundance of each. She loved family get togethers, cherished friendships, enthusiastically refined her flower garden, and enjoyed gatherings around the dining room table whether it was a Thanksgiving Dinner, family meal or a Tea Party with her granddaughters when they were young girls.

She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Peter (2009), son Craig (2019), and her three siblings,

Victoria Cardinali, Winifred Misciagna, and Edward Garda.

She leaves behind her sons Peter John and Mark (Sheila), granddaughters Jessica (Michael) Ferrara and

Jennifer, and cherished great-granddaughter Juliette Ferrara. She is also survived by her sister-in-law and best friend, Ann Garda.

She will be truly missed by her beloved family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 15th, 4-8 PM, at Failla-McKnight Memorial Home, 533 Willow Ave, Hoboken, NJ 07030.

Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 16th, 11:00am AM at St. Lawrence R.C. Church, 22 Hackensack Ave, Weehawken, NJ 07086.

Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
